What is the charging lamp doing?

Common problems

The battery won't charge or the lamp keeps flashing

  1. Is the lamp flashing slowly, about every 4 seconds? This happens when the battery is over discharged or too hot or cold. It can still charge, but it may take a few hours.
  2. Is the lamp flashing quickly, about every half second? The battery is not charging. Remove it from the unit and try charging again.
  3. Are the terminals on the unit or battery dirty or blocked? Check for dirt or a foreign object on the terminals, turn off the unit before removing it, then connect the battery correctly again.
  4. Is the running time very short even after a full charge? The battery has worn out and needs replacing.

The lens, viewfinder or screen is foggy

  1. Did you just bring the camera in from a different temperature? Condensation forms when there is a sudden change in temperature or humidity, such as moving from outside or a cold room into a warm room.
  2. Let the camera adjust before using it next time Give the unit about an hour to get used to the new room temperature, or seal it in a plastic bag with the air removed, to prevent condensation.
  3. Already foggy? Remove the power and wait Take out the battery and/or AC adaptor and leave the unit alone for about an hour. The fog will clear naturally.

Recording stops on its own

  1. Is the memory card the right speed class for your recording setting? Recording can stop suddenly if the card is not compatible with the required Speed Class or UHS Speed Class for the format you chose.
  2. Does the card label match what the format needs? Check the label on the card against the Speed Class or UHS Speed Class required for your file format and bit rate.
  3. Is the card access lamp flashing orange? Data is being written or read. Do not remove the card, disconnect the battery or AC adaptor, or jolt the unit while this is happening.

The camera won't turn off by closing the screen

  1. Is the unit recording or connected to a network? The unit will not turn off this way during recording or while connected to a network, even with the LCD monitor closed and viewfinder retracted.
  2. Was this the first time turning it on, or did you last turn it off with the power button? In these cases, opening the LCD monitor or extending the viewfinder will not turn the unit back on. Press the power button instead.
  3. Want to fully power down? Hold down the power button until the status indicator goes off completely.
