Miele CVA 6805
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Miele manual.
What does the display say?
- F1, F2, F3, F4, F80, F81, F82, F83: Internal fault. The machine has detected an internal problem and locks itself out until it is restarted.
- F74, F77, F225, F226, F235, F236: Internal fault (short reset). A shorter internal fault that only needs a brief reset.
- F73 or Check the brew unit: Brew unit problem. The brew unit is dirty or sitting in the wrong position so coffee cannot be processed.
- F227, F228, F229, F230, F233: Automatic dispenser adjustment fault. The cup-height sensor has a fault, but this does not stop you making coffee.
- F234: Cup not recognized three times. The cup or glass you are using has not been recognized by the automatic dispenser adjustment three times in a row.
- Too much ground coffee: Too much ground coffee added. More than one level scoop of ground coffee was put in the chute and the brew unit cannot process it.
- Check water intake: Water intake problem. The machine cannot draw in water properly.
- Push the water container in until it engages: Water tank not seated properly. The water tank is not sitting correctly in the machine.
- Descale: Machine needs descaling. Lime scale has built up enough that the machine locks out drink preparation until it is descaled.
- Clean the milk pipework: Milk pipework needs cleaning. Milk drinks are blocked until the weekly milk pipework cleaning program has been run.
- Degrease the brew unit: Brew unit needs degreasing. Coffee oils have built up in the brew unit after about 200 portions.
- Empty the drip tray (showing even when empty): Drip tray sensor issue. The drip tray may not be pushed in fully, or its sensor contacts are dirty.
- Fill and replace the water container: Water tank message appears incorrectly. This can appear even when the tank is full and fitted if the machine needs descaling.
- Fill and insert milk container: Milk flask not recognized. The sensing mechanism in the milk flask lid may not work because the lid is dirty.
Common problems
The display stays dark or the machine won't turn on
- Did you hold the On/Off button down long enough? A quick tap is not enough. Press and hold the button for a few seconds.
- Is the plug fully pushed into the outlet? Check the power cord is seated properly in the wall outlet.
- Has a fuse or breaker tripped? If the coffee system, the voltage, or another appliance is at fault, a fuse can trip. Get an electrician to check it.
The coffee isn't hot enough or doesn't taste right
- Did you preheat the cup? Small, thick-walled cups lose heat fast. Warm the cup with hot water first.
- Is the brewing temperature set too low? Raise the brewing temperature setting for this drink.
- Are the brew unit filters blocked? Remove the brew unit and clean it, and degrease it if needed.
- Is the machine overdue for descaling? Longer heat-up times and wrong water amounts mean it's time to descale.
Milk won't froth properly, or sprays
- Is the milk cold enough? Good froth only forms with cold milk.
- Is the milk flask pushed in all the way? If it isn't fully seated, the machine draws in air along with the milk.
- Is the milk pipework in the lid clean? Take the lid apart and clean the milk pipework with the cleaning brush.
- Could the elbow connector be blocked? If only hot milk comes out and nothing else has fixed it, replace the elbow connector.
An error code or message won't go away
- Is it an F-code like F1-F4 or F80-F83? Turn the machine off and leave it off for the stated time before trying again.
- Does it say 'Check the brew unit' or show F73? Try removing and cleaning the brew unit.
- Does it say 'Check water intake'? Look for a kinked hose or a tap that isn't fully open.
- Does it say to push the water container in? Take the water tank out and put it back in firmly.
