What does the display say?

• F1, F2, F80, F82, F353, F354: Internal fault, long reset needed. The machine has detected an internal fault. It needs a longer rest before it will work again.
• F74, F77, F225, F226, F235, F353, F354: Internal fault, short reset needed. The machine has detected an internal fault that clears with a short reset.
• F73 or Check the brew unit: Brew unit is not in the start position. The brew unit cannot sit correctly or is soiled, so ground coffee cannot be pressed.
• Push the water container in until it engages.: Water container not filled or fitted correctly. A maintenance program stopped early because the water container is not filled to the right mark or not inserted properly.
• F233: Cup rim sensor lost its position. The cup rim sensor is missing or was bumped and lost its reference point.
• F307 or Remove the milk valve and clean it: Milk valve fault. The milk valve itself is faulty and needs to be taken out and cleaned.

Common problems

My coffee isn't hot enough

1. Did you pre-heat the cup? Small, thick-walled cups lose heat fast. Warm the cup with hot water before making your drink.
2. Is the brewing temperature set too low? Raise the brewing temperature for that drink in Parameters.
3. Are the brew unit filters blocked? Remove the brew unit and clean it by hand, then run the degreasing program.

My coffee tastes weak or watery

1. Are you using oily, dark-roast beans? Oily beans can coat the bean container walls and slow the flow of beans. Clean the bean containers more often with these beans.
2. Could the beans be jamming together? Large or mixed-size beans can wedge together and form bean bridges. Pull the container out slightly and shake it.
3. Is the grinder set too coarse? A too-coarse grind makes coffee watery and acidic with pale crema. Set the grinder one notch finer and make a new cup.
4. Is the coffee quantity set too low? If the coffee lacks body, increase the amount of ground coffee used for that drink.

The milk froth isn't right

1. Is the milk too warm? Good froth only forms with cold milk. Check the temperature of the milk in the container.
2. Is the milk pipework or valve dirty? A blocked milk valve stops good froth from forming. Remove and clean the milk valve.
3. Does only hot milk come out, or does milk spray? This means the milk valve is likely blocked. Remove and clean it, and do this more often if it keeps happening.

The machine won't turn on or respond

1. Did you hold the On/Off button long enough? A quick tap isn't enough. Hold the button for at least 3 seconds.
2. Is the plug fully inserted? Check the plug is seated properly in the socket.
3. Has a circuit breaker tripped? Unplug the machine and contact a qualified electrician or Miele Service.
4. Is the display frozen and not responding to touches? Hold the On/Off button until the display turns off, then the machine will restart on its own.

Step-by-step guides

Descale the appliance

1. Confirm the Descale message with OK
2. Add 2 descaling tablets to the water container
3. Fill with lukewarm water to the descale mark, following the mixing ratio
4. Reinsert the water container and follow the display prompts
5. Rinse the water container thoroughly with clean water
6. Fill the water container with drinking water

Degrease the brew unit

1. Open the Maintenance menu and select Degrease the brew unit
2. Remove the water container and the brew unit
3. Clean the interior of the machine
4. Rinse the brew unit by hand under warm water
5. Drop a cleaning tablet into the top of the brew unit
6. Push the brew unit back into the coffee machine
7. Close the door and follow the remaining display instructions

Clean the milk pipework

1. Open the Maintenance menu and select Clean milk pipework
2. Add 2 sticks of cleaning agent to the water container
3. Follow the mixing ratio and fill with the specified amount of water
4. Replace the water container and close the door
5. Rinse the water container thoroughly when prompted
6. Fill the water container with drinking water
