Common problems

My coffee isn't hot enough

  1. Did you warm the cup first? Cold cups pull heat out of the coffee. Rinse the cup with hot water before brewing.
  2. Has it been a few minutes since your last coffee? If a couple of minutes have passed, the internal circuit cools down. Run a rinse cycle first.
  3. Is the temperature setting low? Check the coffee temperature setting in the menu and raise it.

My coffee is weak, thin, or comes out too slowly

  1. Is the coffee weak or not creamy? The grind may be too coarse. Turn the grind dial one click finer while the mill is running, then test with two coffees.
  2. Does it come out a drop at a time? The grind may be too fine. Turn the grind dial one click coarser while the mill is running, then test with two coffees.
  3. Are you using the right coffee? If the coffee itself is unsuitable, switch to coffee made for espresso machines.

The machine won't turn on

  1. Is it plugged into the wall socket? Check the cord is plugged into a working mains socket.
  2. Is the main switch at the back on? Find the main switch on the back of the machine and press it to the on position.
  3. Is the power cord fully seated at the back of the machine? Push the cord's connector all the way into the socket on the back of the machine.

Milk won't come out, or froth is poor

  1. Is the milk container lid clean? A dirty lid can block milk flow out of the spout.
  2. Is the milk cold and the right type? Use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk straight from the fridge for the best froth.
  3. Is the froth dial set correctly? Check the froth dial is adjusted to the setting for the drink you want.
  4. Is the lid or froth dial dirty? Clean the milk container lid and dial as described in the cleaning section.

Step-by-step guides

Descale the machine

  1. Open Settings, choose Maintenance, then Descale.
  2. Remove the tank, take out the filter if fitted, and empty the tank.
  3. Pour in the descaler, then add water up to the marked level.
  4. Empty and replace the drip tray and grounds container.
  5. Place an empty 1.8 litre container under the spouts.
  6. Let the descaling program run.
  7. Rinse: fill the tank with fresh water up to MAX.
  8. Put the filter back in its housing if you removed one, and replace the tank.
  9. Empty and replace the drip tray once more to finish.

Clean the milk container

  1. Leave the milk container in the machine; you don't need to empty it.
  2. Place a cup under the frothed milk spout.
  3. Turn the froth dial to CLEAN and let the cycle finish on its own.
  4. Turn the dial back to a froth setting.
  5. Remove the container and wipe the steam nozzle with a sponge.

Clean the infuser

  1. Turn the machine off properly first.
  2. Remove the water tank.
  3. Open the infuser door on the right side of the machine.
  4. Press the two coloured release buttons and pull the infuser out.
  5. Soak the infuser in water, then rinse it under the tap.
  6. Brush out any coffee residue left in the infuser housing.
  7. Replace the infuser and push until it clicks into place.
  8. Check the two coloured buttons have snapped out.
  9. Close the infuser door.
  10. Put the water tank back.
