Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Fisher & Paykel manual.

What does the display show?

Common problems

The cooktop won't turn on or the controls don't respond

  1. Is the cooktop getting power? Check it is connected to the power supply, switched on at the wall, and that there is no power outage in your home.
  2. Are the controls locked? Locked controls stay unresponsive except for ON/OFF. Touch and hold the keylock control for a few seconds to unlock them.
  3. Is there water on the controls, or are you using your fingertip? A film of water or touching with the tip of your finger can make controls hard to use.

The pan isn't heating up

  1. Is your cookware suitable for induction? Only pans designed for induction cooking will heat on this cooktop.
  2. Is the pan too small or off centre? Centre the pan so its base matches the size of the cooking zone.
  3. Does the display flash alternately with the heat setting? This flashing means there is no pan, the wrong pan, or it isn't centred on the zone.
  4. Is the cooktop in Display mode? If -0- shows in the timer display, the cooktop is in Display mode and needs service attention.

The glass surface is getting scratched

  1. Does your cookware have rough or jagged edges? Use pans with flat, smooth bases suited to induction cooking.
  2. Are you using an abrasive scourer or cleaner? Harsh scourers or cleaning agents can scratch ceramic glass. Use a suitable cooktop cleaner instead.
  3. Are you sliding pans across the glass? Always lift pans off the cooktop instead of dragging them across the surface.

The cooktop turned off by itself and showed an error code

  1. Did a tone sound with an Er code on screen? This points to a technical fault rather than something you can fix yourself.
  2. Have you written down the error code? Note the exact letters and numbers shown before you call for help.
  3. Have you switched off at the wall and contacted service? Turn off the power at the wall, then contact your Authorised Service Centre or Customer Care with the code.

Step-by-step guides

Clean everyday soiling on the glass

  1. Switch the power to the cooktop off at the wall.
  2. Apply cooktop cleaner while the glass is still warm, not hot.
  3. Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  4. Switch the power back on at the wall.

Remove melted or sugary spills from the glass

  1. Switch the power to the cooktop off at the wall.
  2. Hold the scraper at a 30 degree angle and scrape the spill to a cool area of the glass.
  3. Clean the soiling or spill up with a dish cloth or paper towel.
  4. Apply cooktop cleaner, rinse, wipe dry, then switch the power back on.

Check if your cookware works with induction

  1. Move a magnet across the base of the pan.
  2. If the magnet is attracted, the pan is induction suitable.
  3. If you have no magnet, put some water in the pan instead.
  4. Follow the steps under 'To start cooking' to heat the pan.
