Weber Genesis II E-310
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Weber manual.
Common problems
The grill won't light
- Is gas actually flowing to the burners? Use the match-lighting method to find out before you blame the ignition system.
- Is there a plastic wrap still on the battery? A protective plastic wrap left on the battery will stop it from working.
- Can you hear a ticking sound when you press the ignition button? If there is no ticking, the battery or wires are the problem.
- Are the ignition wires connected properly? Check that the wires are secure at the ignition button and correctly matched to the ignition module.
The grill won't reach temperature or heats unevenly
- Did you turn on the cylinder quickly, or with a burner knob left on? This can trip the regulator's safety flow limiter. Close the cylinder valve, turn all knobs off, and try again.
- Is the LPG cylinder low or empty? A low cylinder won't give the grill enough gas to heat properly.
- Is the fuel hose bent or kinked? A kinked hose restricts gas flow. Straighten it out.
- Are the burner ports dirty? Clogged ports starve the flame. Clean the ports along the top of the burner.
Flare-ups, or flakes falling from inside the lid
- Did you preheat before cooking? Skipping preheat leaves old residue on the grates, which can flare up.
- Is grease or old food built up inside? A dirty cookbox needs a full top-to-bottom clean.
- Does the inside of the lid look like peeling paint? That's normal carbon buildup from cooking, not a defect. Brush it off.
You smell gas or hear a hissing sound
- Do the flames look yellow and lazy, along with a gas smell? The spider/insect screens on the burners may be blocked. Clean them with a soft bristle brush.
- Do you smell gas with a light hissing sound from the cylinder? The rubber seal inside the cylinder valve may be damaged. If so, return the cylinder to your retailer.
Step-by-step guides
Check gas flow with a match
- Open the grill lid.
- Make sure every burner knob is off.
- Turn on the gas at the cylinder.
- Strike a match in the matchstick holder.
- Insert the lit match through the grates, next to the leftmost burner.
- Turn that burner's knob to start/high.
- Check if the burner lights by looking through the cooking grates.
- If it doesn't light, turn the knob off and wait before trying again.
Check for gas leaks
- Mix a soap and water solution, or buy a leak check solution.
- Wet the fittings at the cylinder and regulator with the solution.
- Turn the gas supply on at the cylinder.
- Watch the fittings for bubbles.
- If bubbles appear, turn the gas off and do not use the grill.
- If no bubbles appear, turn the gas off and rinse the connections with water.
Reset the gas flow limiter
- Close the LPG cylinder valve.
- Turn every burner control knob to the off position.
- Wait for the gas to clear.
- Light the barbecue again as normal.
