Common problems
The engine won't start
- Did you follow the cold start steps in order and not flood it? If the engine stops partway through starting, close the choke and repeat the start steps from the beginning.
- Is the air filter clean? A clogged air filter can stop the engine from starting easily. Clean it, or replace it if needed.
- Is the fuel mixture correct and fresh? Use a correctly mixed 50:1 gasoline and two-cycle oil blend that is less than 30 days old.
- Is the spark plug dirty or worn? Check the spark plug if the engine is hard to start, low on power, or rough at idle.
The engine has low power or runs rough
- Is the idle speed correctly adjusted? Make sure the idle is set so the engine runs smoothly in all positions.
- Is the air filter clean? A dirty air filter can cause low power. Clean or replace it.
- Is the spark plug dirty? Clean the spark plug and check the electrode gap is correct.
- Is the spark arrester screen clogged? A blocked screen can reduce power. Clean it, and replace it if needed.
The vacuum won't pick up debris, or the collection bag has a problem
- Is the collection bag damaged or the zipper open? Check the bag before use. A damaged bag or open zipper can let debris escape and should not be used.
- Are you trying to vacuum large or solid objects? The fan can be damaged by large or solid debris. Only vacuum leaves and similar light debris.
- Is the vacuum tube blocked? Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug cap before you clear any blockage.
The engine stops while running or won't restart right away
- Did you wait before trying to restart? Wait a few seconds after stopping so the stop switch can reset before you try to start again.
- Is the choke in the right position? If the engine stops during starting, close the choke and repeat the starting steps.
- Is the fuel mixture old? Do not use fuel mixture older than 30 days.
