Weber Q 1000
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Weber manual.
Common problems
Food tastes stewed or isn't cooking in the time expected
- Did you preheat the barbecue first? Temperature is not hot enough if you skip preheating. Preheat the barbecue before you start cooking.
- Is the lid closed while you cook? The barbecue needs a closed lid to reach and hold the right temperature.
The flame won't light or keeps blowing out
- Is it windy where the barbecue is sitting? Strong wind can blow the gas flame out. Turn off the gas, wait, then try again, or move or turn the barbecue away from the wind.
- Have you just finished cooking and now it won't relight? Rising heat can carry the gas away from the igniter. Let the barbecue cool before trying again.
Heat is uneven or the smoke or residue looks wrong
- Does the flame travel all the way around the burner? A blocked burner hole stops the grill heating evenly. Clean out the holes with a thin tool.
- Is black residue sticking to the meat? A dirty cooking surface causes this. Clean the grill before you start cooking.
- Is black smoke coming from the barbecue? This means there is a fire inside, usually from built up fat. Grey smoke is normal and fine.
Step-by-step guides
Clean the cooking grill
- Preheat the barbecue on high for 10 minutes.
- Scrape off solid debris with a grill brush.
- Use tongs to rub a damp cloth over the grill bars to remove excess grease.
Deal with a fat fire
- Turn off the gas at the bottle and open the lid.
- Remove the food from the barbecue.
- Leave the fire to burn out with the lid up.
