Breville the Smart Toast BTA845
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Breville manual.
Which light is flashing?
- All buttons and LED flashing, elements off: Bread is jammed in the slots. The toaster has sensed jammed bread, crumpets or muffins and turned off the heating elements for safety.
Common problems
Bread, crumpets or muffins are jammed in the slots
- Are all the buttons and the LED progress indicator flashing? This means bread is jammed and the heating elements have turned off for safety.
- Is the toaster unplugged and cool? Switch it off at the outlet, unplug it and let it cool completely before touching the slots.
- Can you ease the bread out without forcing it? Work the bread free carefully so you do not damage the heating elements.
Toaster won't turn on or respond to buttons
- Is the toaster plugged into a 220/240 volt outlet and switched on? The toaster is electronically controlled and stays off until it has power at the outlet.
- Has the toaster gone into stand-by? After 30 seconds without a button press or slide adjustment the lights turn off.
- Have you turned the outlet off then on again? Switching the power at the outlet off then on again wakes the toaster from stand-by.
Toaster is smoking or has a smell
- Is this the first time you've used the toaster? A thin smoke or odor on first use is normal and will not harm the toaster.
- Have you cleaned the crumb tray recently? Leftover crumbs can burn and cause smoke or a smell, so empty the tray regularly.
- Has the toaster been exposed to cooking oils or chemicals? Oils and cleaning chemicals can fade or mark the toaster. Wipe them off with a damp cloth.
Toast ready alert is too loud or too quiet
- Do you want to turn the alert off? Hold LIFT & LOOK for 2 seconds, then press FROZEN to mute the alert.
- Do you want a quieter beep? After the hold, press CRUMPET to set the alert to low volume.
- Do you want the loudest beep? After the hold, press A BIT MORE to set the alert back to high, the default.
