Weber Q1200

Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Weber manual.

Common problems

The burner won't light

  1. Does it light with a match? Try lighting the burner with a match to see if gas is reaching it.
  2. Are the igniter wires connected? Check that the wires are seated correctly on the igniter electrode assembly and module.
  3. Is the battery wrap removed? A new battery has a plastic wrapper that must be removed before it will work.
  4. Is the fuel low or empty? Check the cartridge or cylinder and replace or refill it if needed.

Flame is low or uneven

  1. Are the burner ports blocked? Dirty ports along the burner tube can stop flame from running its full length.
  2. Is the spider screen blocked? A blocked insect screen can cause a yellow flame and low gas flow.
  3. Does the flame pattern look wrong? Compare your flame to the correct pattern shown in the manual.

Getting flare-ups while cooking

  1. Did you preheat the grill? Preheat on high with the lid closed before cooking.
  2. Are the cooking grates greasy? Grease build-up on the grates can cause flare-ups.
  3. Is the cookbox dirty? A dirty cookbox can stop grease draining into the catch pan.

Yellow flame with a smell of gas

  1. Does it smell of gas with a yellow, lazy flame? This points to a blocked spider or insect screen.
  2. Could insects be nesting in the burner tube? A nest inside the tube can push gas back out of the air opening.
  3. Is the hose damaged? Check the hose for nicks or cracks before using the grill.
