Our Verdict

Davinci Virtual is a low-cost way to get a business address and weekday live answering on one account, but its receptionists work US Eastern business hours, so round-the-clock or local coverage means looking elsewhere.

Davinci Virtual sells two things that often go together. A virtual office, meaning a business address, mail handling and meeting rooms. And live answering, where receptionists pick up your calls under your business name. It has run since 2006, is part of the Instant Group, and says it serves more than 10,000 virtual office customers.

People look for Davinci alternatives for a few reasons. The receptionists work US Eastern business hours only. The live plans come in small blocks of 50 or 100 minutes. The bill is in US dollars. Or the business only ever needed the phones answered, not the address.

This guide sets out what Davinci offers as of September 2026, then six alternatives with honest trade-offs. We build Help Genie, so weigh our entry accordingly.

What Davinci Virtual actually offers

Live receptionist plans. Davinci publishes four plans on its live receptionists page, all in US dollars.

PlanLive minutesMonthly price
Business 5050US$129
Business 100100US$239
Premium 5050US$249
Premium 100100US$319

Business plans cover call answering, forwarding, voicemail and a free phone number. Premium plans add appointment scheduling, outbound calling, order processing and admin tasks.

According to Davinci’s receptionist FAQ, extra time costs US$1.75 a minute on Business plans and US$2.50 on Premium. There is a one-time US$95 setup fee for live receptionist services. Phone plans are month to month with 30 days’ written notice to cancel. International numbers are US$49.95 a month.

Answering hours. This is the detail that matters most. The FAQ says receptionists answer “during coast to coast business hours (8 am - 8 pm EST) Monday through Friday.” Outside those hours, an automated attendant greets callers.

Virtual office. Davinci’s FAQ lists business addresses from about US$49 a month, with a location setup fee from US$150. Location plans need a 6-month commitment. Davinci has Australian addresses too. Its Sydney page lists addresses from US$44 to US$195 a month.

Strengths. One account for your address, meeting rooms and answering. A low entry price at US$129. Billing by the second, not rounded minutes, per the FAQ. Month-to-month phone plans.

Weaknesses. Live answering stops at 8pm Eastern and does not run at weekends. Minute blocks are small. At two to two and a half minutes a call, 50 minutes covers roughly 20 to 25 calls. On Trustpilot, Davinci scores 4.6 out of 5 on more than 3,200 reviews. Recent negative reviews focus mostly on mail notifications, unexpected fee increases and slow support replies, which relate to the virtual office side more than the phones.

For Australian and New Zealand businesses. Our own conversion, not Davinci’s. 8am to 8pm US Eastern falls roughly between 10pm and noon the next day in Sydney, and between midnight and 1pm in Auckland, depending on daylight saving. So a local business would get live answering mostly overnight and in the morning, and an automated attendant for the afternoon.

The six best Davinci Virtual alternatives

1. Help Genie (disclosure, we build it)

Help Genie trains one genie on your website, manuals, FAQs and price lists. It answers customers by voice and chat on your phone line, website, email and QR codes, around the clock. It is built for businesses that sell, rent, service or support physical products, such as dealers, equipment hire, marine and trades.

Best for: Businesses whose callers ask product questions at all hours and who do not need a business address.

Honest trade-off: It is voice AI, not a person. There is no human answering team, and no virtual office, mail handling or meeting rooms.

Pricing: Free plan to build and test a genie. Pro is $299 a month and includes the phone number, phone, chat, web, QR and email from one knowledge base, and lead capture. Prices are the same number in NZD, AUD and USD, flat monthly with no per-minute meter. See /pricing.

Wins over Davinci: Answers 24/7, including weekends. Answers from your own documents instead of a short script. No minute block to run out of. Leads arrive by email with context. See how lead capture works.

Where it falls short: If you need a human on every call, or a street address and mail service, Davinci does something Help Genie does not. You can hear it work before you decide.

2. Smith.ai

Smith.ai sells live receptionists and a separate AI answering product.

Best for: US businesses that want humans answering 24/7 with deep CRM and intake workflows.

Honest trade-off: Billed per call, and add-ons on the live product cost extra per call.

Pricing: Live receptionist plans start at US$300 a month for 30 calls, with US$11.50 per extra call, per Smith.ai’s pricing page.

Wins over Davinci: 24/7 live answering, not weekday business hours. An AI answering tier as well as humans.

Where it falls short: Per call, it costs much more than Davinci for simple message taking. Its agents are North America-based, which suits US callers best. See /compare/best-smith-ai-alternatives and /compare/smith-ai-pricing-explained.

3. Ruby

Ruby is a premium US live answering service known for a warm, polished phone manner.

Best for: Relationship-driven businesses where the human voice is part of the brand.

Honest trade-off: Minute-based pricing at a higher entry point than Davinci.

Pricing: US$250 a month for 50 minutes up to US$1,725 for 500 minutes, with no setup fee, per Ruby’s pricing page.

Wins over Davinci: Ruby lists 24/7 coverage including after hours, weekends and holidays. No setup fee.

Where it falls short: Nearly double Davinci’s price for the same 50 minutes. No virtual office. See /compare/best-ruby-receptionists-alternatives.

4. AnswerConnect

AnswerConnect is a live answering service with receptionists on the phones 24/7, 365 days a year.

Best for: Businesses that need a human answering nights and weekends.

Honest trade-off: Pricing sits behind a form, minutes round up and include after-call work, and there is a 90-day minimum.

Pricing: Its public Canadian price list starts at C$325 for 100 minutes, and Growth is C$425 for 300 minutes. US rates are not published openly. Full breakdown at /compare/answerconnect-pricing.

Wins over Davinci: Round-the-clock live answering. Larger minute bundles.

Where it falls short: Higher entry price, a minimum term, and no virtual office. We found no Australian or New Zealand site.

5. ReceptionHQ (for Australian and New Zealand businesses)

ReceptionHQ is a live answering service with separate sites and pricing for New Zealand, Australia and the US.

Best for: Small AU and NZ businesses that want local receptionists and low-cost message taking.

Honest trade-off: Entry plans are message taking only. Call transfers, lead capture and bookings sit on higher plans with per-call or per-minute billing.

Pricing: On the New Zealand pricing page, plans start at NZ$19 a month excluding GST for message taking, with MyReceptionist 50 at NZ$149 a month. MyAssistant and MyDiary start at NZ$49 a month plus a setup charge from NZ$50. No lock-in contracts and a 7-day free trial. The Australian site did not load when we checked, so confirm A$ prices directly.

Wins over Davinci: Local receptionists in local time zones, 24/7 coverage offered, local currency and a free trial.

Where it falls short: No virtual office. Billing by call or minute still scales with volume.

6. AI phone answering (Hey Jodie, Johnni)

For businesses that mostly need calls answered and messages taken, AI answering services cost less than live minutes and never close.

Best for: Trades and small service businesses that want 24/7 cover on a small budget.

Honest trade-off: No human on the line, and quality depends on setup.

Pricing: Hey Jodie lists A$99, A$199 and A$399 a month with unlimited minutes and a 7-day free trial. Johnni lists plans from A$49 a month for 60 minutes to A$809 for 1,500 minutes, excluding GST, with per-minute overage.

Wins over Davinci: Always on, local currency, no minute blocks on Hey Jodie.

Where it falls short: No address or meeting rooms, and no human fallback built in.

Best alternative by scenario

You need an address and weekday answering on one bill. Stay with Davinci. Nothing else on this list does both.

Your callers ring at night and at weekends. Help Genie, AnswerConnect, Ruby or Smith.ai. Pick a human service if every caller must reach a person.

You are in Australia or New Zealand. ReceptionHQ for local humans, Help Genie or Hey Jodie for always-on answering in local currency. See /compare/smith-ai-alternatives-nz-au for more local options.

Most calls are product questions. Help Genie. Callers get answers from your own manuals, not a message slip. Send us yours at /send-us-your-manual.

You are replacing voicemail, not a receptionist. Compare the options at /compare/help-genie-vs-voicemail.

What hours do Davinci receptionists work? 8am to 8pm Eastern US time, Monday to Friday, per Davinci’s FAQ. Outside those hours an automated attendant greets callers.

Can I cancel Davinci Virtual at any time? Phone plans are month to month with 30 days’ written notice. Virtual office location plans need a 6-month commitment, then 30 days’ written notice.

Is there a Davinci alternative for Australia or New Zealand? Yes. ReceptionHQ offers local live answering with NZ and AU sites. Hey Jodie and Johnni offer AI phone answering priced in A$. Help Genie is built in New Zealand with prices in NZD and AUD.

Can voice AI replace a live receptionist? For routine calls, often yes. Opening hours, stock, specs, pricing and how-to questions suit a genie trained on your documents. For distressed callers or anything that needs judgment, a human still does better. Run your own numbers at /roi-calculator.

The bottom line

Davinci Virtual is good value if you want a business address and weekday answering from one provider, and your callers ring during US business hours.

If you need 24/7 coverage, local time zones or local currency, look elsewhere. Pick a live service like AnswerConnect, Ruby, Smith.ai or ReceptionHQ when a human must answer. Pick Help Genie when most calls are questions your own documents already answer. For a wider view, see /compare/help-genie-vs-answering-services.
